THE ADVANTAGES
Of choosing Schiatti for your glass and ceramics processing machines
A PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM FOR A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
We installed a latest generation photovoltaic system in our headquarter in Seregno (MB), which is destined to produce electricity, in order to satisfy the energy needs of the offices and the production area.
The system is designed to an average production of 100 KW (110.000 KWh per year) and is composed by 220 very high technology and yield panels. We wanted to make a substantial contribution to sustainability, meant as a virtuous production cycle. This choice fits coherently into our ethical project which involves interventions not only at the environmental level, but also continuous improvements in welfare in general.
In particular, with this project, we commit to:
- Produce clean energy that contributes to the company’s needs to lighten and minimize the production impact on the environment;
- Reduce our carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere;
- Zero noise pollution;
- Make an important step towards a sustainable production.
History

Lathe for manual glass grinding
In 1956 Elia started manufacturing a lathe for manual glass grinding. This consisted of a cast iron base onto which was mounted a carborundum (silicon carbide) wheel
1956
Surface polishing machine mod. 115
This machine was put into production to enable glass surfaces to be polished with cerium oxide prior to silvering to ensure the production of quality mirrors
1957
bevel polishing machine
The new polishing machine had a steel base onto which was mounted an electric spindle which drove a large felt wheel. This was used to give a quality polish to bevelled glasses
1957
CORK POLISHING MACHINE WITH AUTOMATIC PUMICE DISTRIBUTOR mod. 120
In 1957 Elia Schiatti manufactured an automatic cork lathe with the first automatic pumice feeder to polish glass
1959
SANBLASTING MACHINE
In 1959 Elia Schiatti produced a manual sandblasting machine with a feed tank. Thanks to it’s special design and lever system it was possible to adjust the flow of compressed air and sand.
1965
FINGERGRIP MACHINE
Elia Schiatti researches machines for new processes; and designs and manufactures the machine model 124. This consisted of a frame and a motor driven stone tool which produced semi-gloss fingergrips (notches.)
1965
PANTOGRAPH FOR FOR SMALL SHAPED GLASSES
Production of a manual pantograph to cut small shaped glasses started; The machine had a bench equipped with a frame, template and a diamond bit to cut glass shapes.
1967
CORK POLISHING MACHINE FOR ETCHINGS
Elia Schiatti improved the range by introducing the Model 117. Which had shaped wheels to etch the glass and the model 110 which by using a cork tool fed with pumice, polished the etches. Wheels and cork tools of different dimensions were provided for many uses.
1969
SCHIATTI ANGELO SRL
Elia's son Angelo founds the SCHIATTI ANGELO company.
1969
SINGLE HEAD GLASS DRILL
Schiatti manufactured the first glass drill with supporting table.
The manual version consisted of one only spindle and for the first time used a diamond drill bit
1970
MANUAL TILTING TABLE
The first small sized cutting table is manufactured. Fitted with a manually operated tilting top this made for easier glass loading from vertical to horizontal position and vice versa.
1971
TILTING TABLE WITH CABLE LIFTING FOR BIG GLASS SHEETS
The original project is modified to allow loading of big glass sheets. The main table top was equipped with manual lifting castors to allow easy glass handling in the horizontal position and avoid scratches on the glass surface.
1973
SEMI-AUTOMATIC CUTTING TABLE
Schiatti produced an upgrade for their fixed cutting table, equipped with castors and semi automatic movable bridge for glass cutting. The project for this kind of machine was later abandoned,
1974
SAND BELT mod. 118
Following specific request, Schiatti manufactured a wet belt sanding machine for flat edge manual grinding
1974
DRY SAND BELT
Together with the welt belt sander, Schiatti added to its production the Dry Sand Belt with automatic vacuum system,
1975
BEVELER
Pioneers of time, Schiatti designs and produced the first straight beveling machine with 4 spindles for semi polished bevel
1975
CUTTER FOR THICK GLASSES mod. 136
The cutter for thick glasses was manufactured to cut glasses up to 25mm by means of a diamond saw. The machine was equipped with a hydraulic moving tablr and a tank fir water.
1977
WET SAND BELT
A variation of model 118, wet belt sander grinds both arrises and corners.
1978
AUTOMATIC DIGGER FOR SOAP DISH HOLES
The automatic grinding machine for soap dish holes which was hydraulically controlled has been designed for the bathroom and furniture industries. It is highly automated to give increased production.
1978
AR/2M
Schiatti manufactured its first straight grinding machines: models AR/2M and AR/2MM equipped with 2 and 3 wheels. Designed for pencil edge, these models can process edges like ogee, waterfall, flat and arris.
1979
RI/4M
Schiatti enriches the range of edgers for round wire with the models RI / 4M, 4 wheels, and RI / 6M, 6 wheels.
1979
BFT
The "Fiera Campionaria" fair in Milan is the occasion for Schiatti to show its prototype BFT double edging machine for pencil edge, model BFT. The machine can process 2 sides of the glass sheet at the same time, halving production time.
1980
FPS10
The first 6 wheels straight grinding machine using cup wheels for flat edge and arris is manufactured. Polishing wheels work are operated by pneumatics.
1980
FPS15
The range of flat edge straight line edgers is increased by the introduction of the FPS15. A group of businessmen, including Angelo Schiatti, form GIMAV, an organization bringin together Italian machine manufaturers.
1981
FPD60
The original single head drilling machine is replaced by the new model FPD60 with two opposing heads and options like glass support table, tank, pump; it comes in automatic or semi-automatic versions.
1983
BFT 12
The BFT model is upgraded to become fully automated and the BFT range is increased to process thicker glasses to a high polish. An automatic transfer table is designed to make up the complete line to process all 4 glass sides in one operation.
1983
SERIES MITRE
The straight grinding machine for flat edge "family" is again increased with series "MITRE", machines, designed to produce both flat and arris edges, and mitres from 22.5° to 45°.
